SAPU condemns the killing of a suspect
- 2 February 2009
Â
The South African Police Union (SAPU) would like to condemn with the strongest terms possible the barbaric killing of an alleged robber and rapist by Klipgat, North West community. Members alleging they heard the screams of his alleged victims.
It is alleged that two girls aged 17 and 18 were cornered at Midas Square by four men early on Saturday morning. The girls were robbed and raped. Three men ran away whilst the fourth was caught by community members and allegedly assaulted until he died.
This is not a banana republic. Actions like these are totally unacceptable. As two men were later pointed out and arrested, they will appear in court facing charges of robbery and rape. They will be given a fair trail as our constitutional democracy calls for a fair trail. The barbaric killings of suspects by community members will lead to a situation where innocent people are assaulted and killed. There is no-one above the law including the police.
We call upon patriotic citizen in the Klipgat area to assist the police in arresting all those who were involved in this criminal act. They have to face the music. As much as we appreciate and acknowledge community help in combating crime, they must not take the law into their own hands.

Together we will make the difference
