The Trust fund was established as a result of SAPU’s concerns regarding the killing of its members and the impact this has on the families who are left behind.

The fund was an addition to an ongoing campaign by SAPU to create a safe working environment for its members and to render support to the families of the deceased.

Campaigns aimed at creating awareness amongst the South African public and the community with the intent to actively combat and reduce instances of Police Killings is an integral part of the Fund.

To this end the National Executive Committee (NEC) of SAPU took a resolution in November 2002 to establish this fund with the following objectives:
  • Embark on preventative measures and campaigns aimed at reducing the levels of members killed in their working environment;
  • Support members of SAPU and their families when a member, spouse or child dies.
