SAPU CALLS UPON ALL OFFICERS TO SACRIFICE FOR NELSON MANDELA
South African Policing Union as part of the progressive global society wants to join billions of democratic forces around the globe in saluting the late former South African state president tata Rholihlahla Nelson Mandela. Most of us who have an interest in politics whether its civic, labour, national or international politics grew up personally knowing the word Nelson Mandela.
We join the world in celebrating a life well lived. Nelson Mandela’s name will join other internationally acknowledged individuals like the late English writer William Shakespeare. He is so great that we will all die but his name will live with many generations to come.
SAPU would like to challenge the SAPS management together with the political leadership to keep Mandela’s legacy by fulfilling one of his fundamental wishes that as South Africans both black and white we must live in harmony. The current situation in our country doesn’t allow anyone to live in that environment. Our people are living in fear in their own backyards because of the rampant crime.
Whilst billions are saluting this global icon of reconciliation and peace, the South African Policing Union would like to pose this simple question, now that the prophet has his mouth shut, where are his disciples? The Mandela legacy must be protected and carried over the years.
As SAPU we pledge to follow in Nelson Mandela’s footsteps of reconciliation all the way. We are also taking this opportunity of celebrating tata Mandela’s life to call upon the men and women in blue to seriously consider sacrificing their time for this great son of our land. We acknowledge the fact that tata Mandela’s funeral is a special event according to SAPS regulations and therefore members would expect to be compensated accordingly when working overtime during this event. We call upon those officers to show patriotism by doing those extra hours in the name of the old man who sacrificed a lot for the sake of all of us. We can state it categorically clear that even the bargaining right and the right of our unions existence came through Mandela’s selfless efforts.
In conclusion SAPU calls upon each and every officer to be deployed during this funeral in each and part of our country be it in Pretoria, Johannesburg or Mthatha , weather next to the fallen hero’s coffin or next to a very very important person or next to the crowds that we expect maximum performance to guarantee an incident free event.
Viva Nelson Mandela Viva!
